Color is an integral element of our surroundings, not just in the natural environment but also in the man-made architectural environment. It has always played a vital role in the human life. Psychological influences, communication, information, and effects on the psyche are aspects of the noncognitive judgment process.

Selecting colors for architectural elevations, interior spaces, furniture and landscapes can be an staggering task. With the array of options you can easily get confused which color to use and which not to. However, there are some basics you need to acknowledge in order to select the right shades for your purpose. You need to be aware of Color Theory, such as what are the primary, secondary and tertiary colors, what is the color wheel and what does a monochromatic scale do? You need to have a basic knowledge on the background in the psychology of colors; like what colors induce relaxation and calmness, what colors raise focus levels, and what colors promote hyperactivity.

Perspectives:

The colors in our surroundings have a great impact on us. Studies have showed certain patterns in color preference that are related to age, socioeconomics, and character traits. Here are some examples of what each color speaks about.

1.      RED

Effect: strength & determination
Association:
Positive: ardent & strong
Negative: aggressive & fierce
Character: It is the most dominant and dynamic color. It is highly visible and a very prominent shade which easily grabs your attention

Negative: intrusive
Character: It characterizes creativity, success, encouragement, change, determination, health, stimulation, happiness, fun, enjoyment and balance

Walls: warm & luminous
Floor: motion-oriented

Positive: energy, optimism, enlightenment,
Negative: egocentric
Character:  It radiates warmth, cheerfulness, and inspiration and signifies enlightenment & communication.

4. GREEN

Effect: renewal, growth, harmony
Association:
Positive: tranquil & serene
Negative: greed
Character: This shade is one of the most soothing hues to the eye. Green can symbolize nature but also molding.
Ceiling: protective & passive
Walls: cool, secure, calm, reliable
Floor: natural, relaxing & cold

5. BLUE

Effect: depth and stability
Association:
Positive:, secured & noble
Negative: depressing & melancholy
Character:

Ceiling: cool & receding (if light), heavy and oppressive (if dark)
Walls: cool and distant , encouraging
Floor: effortless movement & substantial
